East Bay Chinese School

East Bay Chinese School is proud to partner with Piedmont Language School(PLS) in offering in-person Mandarin classes. The PLS Pre-Level 1 Mandarin class is geared towards students who have completed PLS Early Mandarin or are have been assessed by EBCS Administration as to be ready for Pre-Level 1.

This class continues to build the foundation for learning of characters and speaking Mandarin. A textbook is not used at this level; the teacher teaches in themes primarily using simple crafts, rhymes, storytelling and games to engage students. Some of the themes explored in this class are building upon topics taught in the TK level class: Myself, My Family and My Friends. The idea is for students to get a feel for the language, and to immerse in the spoken language, without being conscious of the fact that they are learning. 

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20-4:20pm at Piedmont Middle School(classroom tbd). Instructional calendar will follow the Piedmont Unified School District calendar and it's noted holidays and non-instruction days. Semester 1: September 10th - December 19th. Semester 2: January 7th - May 16th.

No classes will be held the week of Thanksgiving(week of November 25th), Winter Break(weeks of December 23rd and December 30th), President's Week(week of February 17th), and Spring Break(week of April 7th).
