East Bay Chinese School

East Bay Chinese School is proud to partner with Piedmont Language School(PLS) in offering in-person Mandarin classes.

The PLS Pre-Level 1 Mandarin class is geared towards students who have completed PLS Early Mandarin or have been assessed by EBCS Administration to be ready for Pre-Level 1. 

This class continues to build the foundation for learning characters, vocabularies and speaking Mandarin. A textbook is not used at this level. The teacher teaches in themes primarily using simple characters/vocabularies, crafts, storytelling and games to engage students. Some of the themes explored in this class are Myself, My Family, I like…, Animals, Color and Food. 

The idea is to prepare students to get ready for Level 1 which will start to use books and to build up sentences.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20-4:20pm at Piedmont Middle School (classroom TBD). 

Instructional calendar will follow the Piedmont Unified School District calendar and its noted holidays and non-instruction days. 

No classes will be held the week of Thanksgiving, Winter Break (12/19/25 - 1/12/26), President's Week, and Spring Break.

No classes will be held on when the elementary schools have minimum days for Open House and Back to School Night.

• Refunds offered if child withdraws for any reason during the first three weeks of class
• All children will be assessed during the first two weeks of class, and teachers may recommend moving children to a different level if it is determined to be a better fit
